A quite superb pair of English Regency embossed terracotta Bacchanalian wine coolers, Circa 1820s, in the manner of Davenport. This beautifully moulded pair of champagne or wine buckets have friezes of fruiting vine relief, a reed and ribbon rim and twin handles created by a pair of satyr fauns
The terracotta body is porous and kept damp allows the summer breeze to keep your champagne or wine cool on a hot day in the garden. In excellent antique condition with a wonderful patina, just a single chip to the base of one cooler (considered not unusual for items of this age and use)
