A beautiful Mid 20th Century signed Art Glass vase by Tapio Wirkkala, Finland Circa 1950s. The vase has been signed by the designer to the base.
Tapio Veli Ilmari Wirkkala (2 June 1915 – 19 May 1985) was a Finnish designer and sculptor who became a major figure of post-war design. He won many awards but his success as a glass designer began in 1946 when he created a design mimicking ‘dripping ice’ glassware; it is said to have taken thousands of hours to develop the glassblowing technique that would produce this effect.
