An extremely rare overshot ice glass large pitcher or jug with internal ice chilling pocket accessed at the base of the handle, American Circa 1880s, attributed to The Boston & Sandwich Glass Company.
Made using a Venetian-inspired ‘ice glass’ technique, this highly unusual jug has an applied handle made of twisted, reeded glass. Behind the handle is a glass chamber in which ice can be placed so as not to dilute contents of pitcher. A similar example can be found in the Brooklyn Museum, see last image.
