An incredibly smart and rare set of twelve 19th Century English silver plated individual asparagus serving tongs with markers mark for Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company (which later merged to become Garrard The Crown Jewellers)
Still in their original leather and gold tooled presentation box lined with pink satin and velvet from retailer Jays of Oxford Street, London. It was common for the finest English silversmiths, such as Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, to supply other independent silver retailers with their hallmarked wares since their manufacturing was recognised as being of the highest quality available.
It is very unusual to find such a large set of tongs in such excellent condition and by such a well respected silversmiths. A great find! Each tong is approx 10cm long. The leather box is 31.5cm wide, 15cm deep, 4.5cm high.
