A rare pair of Victorian Wedgwood overlapping vine leaf relief and painted Pearlware pedestal tureen baskets with twin handles resembling twisted vine stems. Both pieces have the impressed uppercase WEDGWOOD mark; the larger has the date letter mark H representing the year 1879 and the smaller has the date letter mark I representing the year 1880. The smaller has a lower rim to allow for a spoon to rest.
The smaller piece has some old 19th century rivet staples to repair a crack. Crudely touched up, this repair adds charm and is a reminder that something worth keeping was always repaired in the past. Waste not, want not the motto most people lived by!
Larger basket 20.5cm to top of handle, 33cm wide, 18cm deep
Smaller basket 12cm to top of handle, 22cm wide, 12.2cm deep
